Watched in disgust in a recent TV news report about a tragic elevator accident in Meerut that claimed the life of a new mother—just after giving birth—while she was being moved to a ground floor ward.
The cause: broken ropes, a failed safety device,
Root cause ;neglected maintenance./ unskilled technicians/ lack of training
Such incidents are 100% preventable. Customer Cutting costs with unqualified “fly-by-night” operators risks thier own lives and service providers not investing on their own field employees
In Spain, technicians must be professionally certified to work in elevator trade. Our top companies should push for similar rules with local governments. ITIs and private institutes are ready to train both new and existing employees. Companies can sponsor students through their CSR initiatives and attract more in this industry. State governments are also supporting skill-enhancement programs for those willing to invest for the students fees.
Compliance with IS 17900, regular independent inspections, and documented safety tests must never be optional.
Safety over savings—lives depend on it.
