A recent escalator accident abroad, claimed a life when a passenger carrying a trolley lost balance and fell. Despite advisories against carrying such trolleys/heavy luggage on escalators, many still take such risks.
Awareness campaigns and VISIBLE caution signage remain inadequate at most places. Should install barricades near escalators to discourage such usage and, importantly, provide lifts close by to encourage passengers with luggage, senior citizens, and the differently-abled. It is already mandatory to have a lift near an escalator, yet enforcement and visibility are lacking.
As our railway infrastructure undergoes rapid upgrades, passenger safety and preventive measures must remain top priorities.
